Breaking Bonds: 2 Day Oil Painting Workshop

This course combines creative mindsets and practical knowledge for successful painting.
We’ll cover:
- Taking advantage of oil’s unique properties
- Blocking in then blasting off
- Ways to ‘do yourself a favor’ when oil painting
- Planning and execution
- Managing grounds, underpainting, glazing, varnishing
- Unorthodox oil painting techniques
- Shape-based into painterly/broken color
- The soul factor
- Realism and Impressionism: find your voice
- Painting on canvas, panel and copper
Each class will be begin with a painting demonstration
You can work from your own photo reference or imagination or work with me on developing subject matter.
Appropriate for those at all levels with some art experience recommended.

Two days, 9:30 am to 3:30 pm. We’ll break for food at the midpoint – bring yours, order in or walk down to one of the many establishments just down the hill.
By design, this is a small workshop experience.
The workshop takes place in my own studio space, a light bright house in Encinitas Highlands within eyeshot of the inspiring Pacific ocean. Coast Highway 101 and beaches are blocks away for a stroll at the end of the day if you choose.
Bonus: each class demonstration painting will be video recorded and provided for you to review during the week.
Your payment
reserves your space in the workshop. Reservations are transferrable. Cancellations less than 3 weeks before the start of the workshop are not refundable.
